Smooth Treadmills
Smooth is mainly a brand that’s more familiar to internet shoppers than retail shoppers as it isn’t sold and carried by anyone outside the internet. As we’ve discussed in the article “The Truth Behind Smooth Fitness”, Smooth has done a great job in marketing its products on the internet and you reading this right now, is a testament to that. From our meta reviews, we’ve discovered that you should essentially view Smooth treadmills as three different groups due to their similarities.
Group 1 – Budget Walker/Jogger - Smooth 5.25
There’s only one member in this group, the Smooth 5.25 which can be found for less than $1000. Our research on this treadmill has yielded mainly positive things but there were also a few negative remarks mixed in as well that targeted the treadmill and also the company at times.
Group 2 – Budget Runner - Smooth 6.25, 7.1HR Pro, 9.17HRO
This group includes three treadmills, the 6.25, 7.1HR Pro and the 9.17HRO. This forms a second group because we just feel there’s nothing that really differentiates each of these three from each other. You can argue that each treadmill has different folding functions, one has an orthopedic belt and another has more programs than another and so on. But when it all comes down to it, the three treadmills are almost identical in belt size, motor size, max speed, max incline, price range and quality – the factors we mainly use to help you decide whether a treadmill is a good buy.
Our conclusion for this group essentially says the Smooth 6.25 treadmill is the best since it costs the least of the three without losing anything important.
Group 3 – Runners - Smooth 9.25HR and 9.25X
The Smooth 9.25HR and the 9.25X can be found for huge gaps in price and for no good reason! “No good reason” meaning both treadmills are similar in the parts that matter and dissimilar in the parts that don’t really matter. These inessential differences often cost upwards of a $1000 which is outrageous in our opinion.
What is not outrageous is the Smooth 9.25HR selling for sub $2000 at the time of writing. (Since Smooth changes its prices constantly, we remind you the price is “at the time of writing.) If you’re fortunate to find it at that price, we consider it as one of the best deals under $2000.
One comment that we’ve bumped into time and time again when we were doing our research is that Smooth’s customer service department seems to be problematic/non responsive at times. From a rational standpoint, these complaints could possible arise because Smooth sells over the internet meaning its buyers are more net capable and thus more likely to leave comments. By only selling over the net, there’s also no local fitness store to complain to leaving the internet as the only possible venting ground. For these reasons, it’s quite possible that Smooth has bored a disproportional number of negative comments. You are of course free to arrive at your own conclusions by going over to epinions.com and read the user reviews there but we should remind you, no company is without its problems.
