Your EVO FX40HR Treadmill Buying Guide
Summary of What The Experts Say
Experts agree that the EVO FX40HR is one of the best choices in the EVO lineup and one of the better folding treadmills out there on the market today. The FX40HR treadmill has also received a "best folding treadmill" award from Treadmill Doctor in 2006. Tests conducted by experts also show the FX40HR as being of a higher quality than the FX20 and FX30 (where both scored identically). What You Should Do
If you're in search for a treadmill to run on, the EVO FX40HR along with the FX60HRO are the best options in the EVO treadmill lineup when you're trying to strike a balance between features and price.

Although the FX40HR does not have an orthopedic belt like the FX60HRO, it will probably outlast the FX60HRO precisely because it doesn't have it. An orthopedic belt has to be thicker by nature in order for it to feel orthopedic but extra thickness also creates unnecessary work for the motor which results in more heat. More heat equals more problems such as reliability and durability issues.
The FX40HR is also shorter at 54 inches compared to the 60 inches of the FX60HRO. If you're a tall runner, the 54 inches might not feel very comfortable, but for the average or shorter runner, it would be enough in most cases. For those that are willing to spend a few hundred dollars more for the luxury of running on a 60 inch long belt or for those that are just plain tall, the FX60HRO is a very pursuable alternative.
Having said all this, which of the two is the better choice? The answer is it depends on what your needs are. If you consider solely from a durability standpoint, the FX40HR would probably be the better option. If you consider from a comfort standpoint, the orthopedic belt and its 60 inch length is superior. In terms of price, at the time of review, you can find the FX40HR at $200 less than the FX60HRO.
Even though the FX40HR and the FX60HRO are both great treadmills, we feel that at its current price, it doesn’t really stand out from the position. But for runners that are more interested in the gimmicky motion sensor speed adjustors that the Evo FX40HR and FX60HRO sport, the slight premium may be worth it.
Verdict: To reiterate what's said in the other EVO treadmill reviews, the EVO 1, 2 and 3i are the best in terms of quality but they are overpriced. When they’re priced at a thousand dollars or so more than the FX40HR and the FX60HRO, there really isn't that much of an improvement to justify the cost. If you're looking for a treadmill for walking or jogging, the EVO FX20 is the best choice since the FX30's $400 price difference is hard to justify. The FX40HR and FX60HRO are likely overkill for the walker but great choices for runners. If you're looking for a runner's treadmill, your best bet would lie in the FX40HR or FX60HRO depending on your needs. Of course, Evo is not the only brand in town when it comes to treadmills suited for running in the $2000 area.
