Your Ironman Triad Treadmill Buying Guide
Summary of What The Experts Say
The Ironman Triad treadmill features a larger deck (20X60 vs 20X56) and motor (3.0 HP vs 2.5 HP) than the Ironman 320T as one expert noted. Oddly enough, despite the motor upgrade, another expert, the Treadmill Doctor gave identical ratings to the "power" and "quality" areas for both the Ironman Triad and 320T treadmill. This would suggest that even with the upgrades, the quality of the machine is still below average. One point of concern that we came upon when we did our research was how the Triad treadmill's quality rating was downgraded from a 6 to a 4 from 2006 to 2007. This suggests that the treadmill might have performed worst than expected in the real world resulting in a downgraded quality score.

What You Should Do
If you're thinking about the Ironman Triad treadmill as a good choice for a runner, we think you should reconsider. Judging from specs alone, the motor's horsepower at 3.0HP and the 20"X60" are both in the range of what we usually recommend if you intend to do a lot of running. But sometimes specs can be deceiving. As we've discussed in our article on motor ratings, you can't always believe what's written on the spec sheet. This seems to be one of those cases.

Identical "power" scores from Treadmill Doctor for the 320T and Triad models despite a 0.5 HP difference indicates that there is something wrong with the rating. Unless they made a typo, we should just intrepret the Triad treadmill as having a motor with a power rating of 2.5HP instead of 3.0HP.
As a result, the Ironman Triad treadmill is nearly identical to the 320T treadmill save the 4" belt extension.
Verdict: The main point of concern in regards to the Ironman Triad treadmill is how well it will hold up in a real world setting. With the quality score drop from 2006 to 2007 and bad user experiences with Keys Fitness’ customer service that we came across when we did our review of the Ironman 150T,220T,320T, we can't recommend it unless you can get it at rock bottom prices. But if you are able to get this treadmill at prices WAY below $1000, we suggest you get yourself a 3 year extended warranty for $150. For someone that’s going to use the treadmill a lot, it is well worth it.
