Your Gold\\\'s Gym VX 5000 Treadmill Buying Guide
Summary of What The Experts Say
Experts originally thought the Gold's Gym VX 5000 treadmill at a price of under $900 was an excellent deal. But experts have since changed their attitude after seeing the treadmill’s current price of $1299. Experts also warn against the short 1 year parts warranty (1 year labor warranty is standard) and suggest the buyer look into an extended warranty due to some of the cheap parts the treadmill uses. Finally, walking and jogging is OK on this but regular running is not recommended.

What You Should Do
If you can get the Gold's Gym VX5000 treadmill at its original low price of under $900, it is an excellent deal but at its current price, you're better off not buying. A few hundred dollars in this lower price range makes a huge difference in terms of quality (this is not the case for the upper price range).

Perhaps the best features that you get from the VX5000 that you usually don’t find in this price range are the 60” long belt and the two fans. This is not to say that there aren’t other treadmills in this price range that don’t offer these features but they’re by no means standard. But besides those distinguishing features, there’s just nothing else out there that really justifies its $1300 price tag. When you take look at our current list of best buys below the $1000 level, there are treadmills with specs that are equal or better than the VX5000, with a better warranty and with better reliability. If you've got $1300 to spend, don’t spend it all on a treadmill. A better use of the $1300 is putting $1000 on one of our best buys, $60 on a treadmill mat and the rest on fitness ebooks (if you do buy an ebook, you should read our article “The Truth Behind Fitness Ebooks”).
Verdict: The Gold's Gym VX5000 is not a terrible treadmill and is actually an excellent deal at its original price. But the price increase has placed it in a price range where there are stronger competitors that outclasses it in more than one way. You would be better off not taking a chance with an ICON product.
