What You Should Do

If you've read our other review on the Epic 600 MX, you might remember that we came to the conclusion that at its current price, the Epic 600 MX is a really great buy. Well, the Epic 800 MX treadmill is in a situation pretty similar to the 600 MX but with upgraded specs and a slightly higher price. The Epic 425 MX, a 2006 best buy according to Treadmill Doctor scored identically to the 600 MX in all areas except for price. If the 600MX experienced a price drop to the level of where the Epic 425MX was when it received a best buy, then it follows that the Epic 600MX should also be a best buy. As the doctor has updated their reviews in 2007, the Epic 600 MX is actually a little weaker than the 425 MX in the “power” and “walking area” department so that’s why we’re only giving it a “great buy” instead of an “excellent buy” or “best buy”.

But in the Epic 800MX’s case, not only did a price reduction to the level of the 425 MX occur like it did for the 600MX, the 800 MX actually received scores that are better than the 425MX (and the 600MX). In other words, the Epic 800MX is not only equipped with parts that are better than a best buy, it is priced at a level that made the original 425MX a best buy.

If you place as much faith as we do in Treadmill Doctor’s ratings, you might discover that in 2007, the Epic 800MX actually received scores that are superior to the Sole F63 which we have awarded an “Excellent Buy” at the $1000 price mark. Since the Epic 800 MX is about $1000 after shipping, this is exactly the price you can find the Sole F63. We’re going to say that the Epic 800MX is even a better deal than the Sole F63 which experts have been so positive and supportive of over the past few years.

Verdict: For buyers that missed out on the Epic 425MX when it was selling for $800, you can redeem yourself by getting the 600MX or even better, the Epic 800MX. Although it’s slightly more expensive than the 600MX, the improvements more than make up for the price. If you do decide to buy, remember, this is a product made by ICON so you’re taking on a certain level of risk due to the company’s shaky history. We would recommend you get a 3 year extended warranty which would remove a large amount of this risk for only $110. In 2007, the risk of buying a treadmill made by ICON has been as small as it’s ever been in a long time and the Epic 800MX is probably the best example of this.
