Epic Treadmills
Epic treadmills are made by Icon Health and Fitness. For anyone familiar with treadmills, they would tell you to avoid Icon like the plague due to the many quality problems they have had in the past. Should you avoid Epic treadmills like the plague?

Yes and no. The negative perception of ICON stems from the fact that most of their products are in the sub $1000 price range. When treadmills cost less than $1000, it is not at all unusual to see them break down under regular use. For this reason, people often associate ICON with cheap products.

However, ICON seems to have smartened up as their recent products seem to have shown some improvement. This improvement seems to have manifested itself under the Epic brand. For example, the Epic 425 MX received best buy honors by Treadmill Doctor in 2006-2007 in the $500-$1000 category. There are also other models within the Epic lineup such as the 600MX and the 800MX that have rated equally well as the 425MX and can now be had at a great bargain. (Read our coverage on the 600MX and 800MX to learn why these are great bargains.)

But we have to remind you, buying anything from ICON carries a certain degree of risk. With the price cuts right now, the risk is indeed greatly minimized but not entirely diminished. Lastly, just because ICON has improved does not mean you can go on a buying spree without worrying about quality issues. Treadmills are expensive to make and $1000 just doesn’t buy you that much quality in a treadmill.
