The Truth Behind Fitness Ebooks
The Truth Behind Fitness Ebooks
If you've spent any time on the internet searching for solutions to your problems, you've most likely come across ebook products that basically promise you the sky. If you’ve seen headlines like these:
They promise to let you in on all their techniques, all their tricks, and all their secrets for only a measly $97! I’d be a fool not to buy this!
But if life’s problems could be bought off for $97, we’d have no problems at all.
A HEALTHY DOSE OF SKEPTICISM
For most people that have actually bought into the hype, the result is often disappointment. This disappointment often comes a few weeks or months into the program when all those promises of “six pack abs”, “a new you” or “big bulging biceps” are not fulfilled.
At that point, most people starts yelling "SCAM!!!"
After feeling like they’ve been duped, one of those two things usually happens. First, they either go in search for more information to their problems before landing on a different ebook sales page and succumbing to the powerful sales letter and buying in yet again. Or second, they go on harboring these feelings of resent and hate and become cynical of all information products on the net and vowing never ever to buy again.
THE PROBLEM
Here's where I think the problem is - instant gratification. Our society today is plagued with the type of thinking that one can just pop a pill and all their problems will fade away. “There’s got to be some ‘secret’ that I don’t know that can instantly solve my problem.” When the ebook authors play on these weaknesses of ours, we often buy in desperately hoping that there really is a magical pill that will take away all our problems.
In the end, they over promised and under delivered.
What the sales pitch forgot to leave in was a dose of reality. Why do I say this? Let’s consider the buyer’s state of mind at the time of purchase.
1. High hopes that their problems would be solved easily
2. High hopes that some "trick" or "secret" could immediately solve all their problems
3. Unrealistic expectations as to when they'll achieve the desired results (i.e tomorrow!)
4. Unaware of the commitment and effort required to achieve their goals
5. A pumped up state of mind (ready to tackle the issue at hand)
For each of the above points, the truth is actually that:
1. The ebook provides a solution but nowhere near as easy as you had imagined
2. The ebook will provide tricks and shortcuts that will save you a lot of time but most likely not overnight
3. They promise results tomorrow (“or in as little as 15 minutes a day”) so they can get the sale today
4. The sales letter fails to adequately address the commitment and effort required to tackle a serious problem
5. The sales letter gets you pumped up so that they not only you get into the state of mind where you’re ready to tackle the problem but also to press the order button
Since the average buyer does not going into the buying process with the above truths in mind, the following happens.
1. Pumped up buyer buys ebook.
2. Pumped up buyer reads ebook and gets even more pumped up with that newly acquired knowledge.
3. Still maintaining that pumped up state, buyer works at the problem for one day, two days, one week, two weeks, one month!
4. One month later and minimal progress.
5. Depression sets in. Buyer feels cheated.
6. Buyer either searches for the next miracle ebook solution or swears off ebooks forever.
The above is mentally destructive and also detrimental to our progress but it doesn’t have to be that way. We just need to…
SHIFT OUR PERSPECTIVES
Ebooks despite their claims and their best efforts, cannot possibly do all they promise you - at least not immediately. Remember the following quote:
"An overnight success takes 7 years."
I'm not sure who said it but it's not important. What’s important is that you realize anything that’s worth attaining is going to take a lot of effort, a lot of hard work and a lot of time. Unless you’ve got lady luck on your side, be prepared to go through a lot of hardships before getting to where you want to be.
But guess what, lady luck IS on your side as this article is basically the conclusion that I’ve come up with after reading dozens of ebooks.
Up until now, you might have gotten the impression that fitness ebooks are nothing but a waste of money. For those that have spent their fair share of time tackling a problem and have read pretty much everything that pertains to their problem, the ebook is most likely just a waste of time. For those people, the only thing separating them from their goal is action – lots of it. An ebook for those people is not likely to contain anything ground shaking new revelation. But if you’re one of those people that have just started tackling a problem and doesn’t know where to start, the ebook is probably one the best investments you can make. THE TRUTH Ebooks are more often than not, just repackaged information already freely available on the web. This basically means you can find what the books have to say if you just searched the net hard enough. Now before you start complaining about how you're getting charged for information that is available for free, consider this.
All through our time spent in school, we have exposes ourselves to variety of textbooks. From Math to English, History to Programming, how many textbooks have we used that are nothing but repackaged information? After all, it only takes about 10 seconds to find out the volume of a cylinder by searching through Google. Yet, we see our school paying for this type of information that’s already freely available repackaged and sold in the form of a Math textbook. A textbook just makes information more convenient to access.
So think about buying an ebook like buying a Math textbook. You can do the research yourself and spend tens of hundreds of hours trying to make sense of everything that’s out there or you can buy the ebook and save your self the time spent on research. If you do invest in an ebook, make sure it’s a good one written by someone who’s been there and done that. Make sure you enter the buying process not with the mindset that there’s some secret that can make your problems go away overnight.
By paying a small fee, you can use the neatly and conveniently packaged information to shave a ton of time off of what you would have needed to spend on research. Learn all that you can from the ebook then go out and take massive action by applying the information. Don't expect instant results but also don't hesitate to change your approach either if what the ebook is prescribing doesn’t work. Nothing is set in stone. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
So in the end, an ebook is just a book. It’s there to educate you and occasionally, to give you a kick in the butt to jumpstart things. Consider yourself very lucky now that you’ve understood how you should approach buying an ebook. You wouldn’t need to go through the process that I’ve gone through and described above resulting in you saving time, frustration and money.
Take massive action today. Action is what separates the champs from the chumps.
